During the first several days of 2020, Terrace RCMP responded to approximately 180 files from Jan. 1 to 5. About 95 of those files occurred over the weekend, Friday Jan. 3 to Sunday, Jan. 5.
The year 2019 closed with a file count of 14,027 for the Terrace RCMP. In December, police responded to approximately 1,009 calls.
Below are highlights from this past weekend.
Break and enter leads to arrest
Police arrested a Terrace man following a report of a break and enter into a hotel room.
On Jan. 3 around 11:10 p.m., Terrace RCMP responded to a report and arrested a man in relation to the attempted offence. He was lodged in cells to sober up safely before being released on an Undertaking.
On Jan. 4, around 10 p.m., the same man was arrested for breaching conditions related to the break and enter, as well as for threats. He was held for court.
Intoxicated man arrested for assault
A man was arrested for assault after being taken to the hospital on Friday, Jan. 3.
At approximately 2:35 p.m., Terrace RCMP responded to a report of a man lying on the ground on Park Avenue, intoxicated and yelling at no one. The man was taken to hospital by ambulance as a precaution, as he was wet and cold.
Less than an hour later, police were called to the hospital regarding the same man, who was reported to be swearing and physical before leaving without proper winter clothing.
Police located and arrested the man for assault, lodged him in cells to sober up safely, and released him with a court date and conditions.

Assault, breach offences follow shoplifting incident
An intoxicated man was arrested Friday, Jan. 3 after police received a report of an assault on Lakelse Avenue.
Around 8:15 p.m., Terrace RCMP responded to a file involving a store employee being assaulted following a shoplifting incident. Police located an intoxicated man matching the description nearby and arrested him for theft, assault, breach, and public intoxication.

Vehicle window smashed, items stolen
A black Dodge truck was broken into after being parked at the Aquatic Centre this past weekend.
On Saturday Jan. 4, at approximately 11:30 a.m., Terrace RCMP received a report of a theft and mischief between the hours of 9 p.m. and 11:10 a.m. A window was smashed and a door was pried open. Tools were taken from inside the vehicle.
Sobering up with police
Approximately seven people sobered up with police due to disturbance-related incidents.
On Friday, Jan. 3, approximately three men were arrested at locations including the 4600 block of Haugland, the 4400 block of Lakelse Avenue, and the 2800 block of Hall Street.
The next day saw two women arrested at the 4600 block of Lakelse Avenue as well as Sparks Street at Lazelle Avenue.
Sunday ended with two men arrested on the 4400 block of Hall Street and the 2700 block of Kenney.
All were released when sober.
