On April 2, Elk Valley RCMP released information regarding charges laid against a Calgary man after several stolen vehicles were located.
According to corporal Robert Wright with the Elk Valley RCMP, in the early morning of April 1, RCMP responded to an alarm at the Fernie GM dealership after a suspect gained entry and tried to drive a car out of the show room. This act caused extensive damage to both the car and the showroom.
“Police were notified shortly after that a vehicle had been stolen from a Sparwood business,” Wright said in a press release. “Upon investigating that theft, RCMP located a third vehicle that had been stolen out of Alberta.”
The RCMP received another call from a business owner in Elkford who was able to track down a suspicious person in the industrial area after the person was seen “prowling around his shop.”
Elk Valley RCMP attended the scene and arrested the suspect. They later located the car that had been stolen from Sparwood. According to the RCMP press release, the suspect was remanded in custody and will make another appearance in court on April 3 where he will face several additional charges in British Columbia. These are in addition to charges pending in Alberta.
