RCMP: Camper van hits street light, catches fire near Qualicum Beach

Driver sent to hospital, given speeding ticket

A camper van caught fire on Aug. 24 after crashing into a street light in Qualicum Beach.

Oceanside RCMP say they attended the scene at 8:26 a.m. A 1987 GMC camper van reportedly went off the road and hit a lamp post near the Memorial Avenue exit on Highway 19.

The driver was taken by ambulance to hospital in Nanaimo, with a possible broken nose.

Police say the driver was a 30-year-old man from North Vancouver, who was given a ticket for speeding. No one else was injured.
