Nanaimo had a noisy, but relatively uneventful Halloween.
Police received 57 calls for service between 6 p.m. and midnight, mostly for noise complaints involving fireworks.
“Some resulted in seizures and the issuance of bylaws tickets,” said Const. Gary O’Brien, Nanaimo RCMP spokesman.
Bars and nightclubs were busy with Halloween parties, but there were just 13 arrests for public intoxication. Police can normally count on double that number on Halloween.
“Nightclubs were filled to capacity and the energy level was high, however the streets emptied quickly and we believe when the heavens opened it assisted with crowd control at the end of the evening,” O’Brien said.
Firefighters were called out to what was thought to be a structure fire on Fielding Road in Cedar, but was discovered to be a large bon fire.
