The RCMP are asking motorists to be very careful, especially in rural areas, after numerous reports of black ice on roadways were reported this morning.
The overnight dusting of snow over the black ice makes the road surface particularly slippery and motorists may be unaware of just how slick it is.
“Just because you can’t see ice on the road, it doesn’t mean it isn’t there. Most people don’t realize how bad it is until they try to turn or stop and their vehicle doesn’t respond,” said Cst. Steve Holmes, of the Central Okanagan Traffic Services.
“Give yourself extra time for travel and more space between you and the vehicle in front, so you have time to react. Approach intersections with extra caution. Road safety is every motorist’s responsibility.”
