A 48-year -old Williams Lake man is in custody after being arrested during a break and enter at a residence on Thursday afternoon.
RCMP Insp. Jeff Pelley, Officer in Charge, said police responded to a complaint of a break and enter in progress at a residence in the 500 block of Fourth Avenue North, Thursday, Dec. 7 at 3:51 p.m.
“Police Dog Services along with uniform officers attended the residence and it was observed there was a forced entry,” Pelley noted in a press release issued Thursday evening. “Police entered the residence and informed the suspect that a police dog was present.”
There were no occupants at home at the time and when the suspect attempted to flee, he was arrested by police officers and police dog “Grimm” inside the home.
Pelley said the suspect did sustain injuries from the police dog during the apprehension and was taken to Cariboo Memorial Hospital for assessment.
The suspect is “very well known” to police for various offences and will remain in custody, pending recommended charges to Crown Counsel for the offences of break and enter with intent and resisting arrest, Pelley said.
“The RCMP would like to thank the public who observed this offence and called police immediately,” Pelley said, noting the RCMP remind the public to report suspicious incidents in nature by contacting the detachment at 250-392-6211 or dialing 911 for crimes in progress.
