The Golden-Field RCMP had a busy week responding to 81 calls for service, including a number of high priority search and rescues, 11 collisions, and 24 traffic complaints.
Drinking in Public
One male was arrested on July 21, after police were called to the alley behind 10th Avenue South for a group of people drinking alcohol.
“The initial officer responded and kindly asked them to dispose of the alcohol,” said Cst. Spencer Lainchbury, spokesperson for the Golden-Field RCMP.
Police allege that one of the males became irate throwing a bottle towards the officer. The male was arrested and lodged in cells until sober. Several tickets were issued under the Liquor Control and Licencing Act for consuming alcohol in public.
Calgary Boy Falls into Yoho River
Just after 7 p.m. on July 22, five officers with the Golden-Field RCMP responded to a report that an 11 year-old boy from Calgary had fallen in to the Yoho River at the Takakkaw Falls near Field. Police aided Parks Canada along with Golden & District Search and Rescue, and EHS with the search. RCMP Victim Services was also on site to provide support for the family during this tragic incident.
“We also want to acknowledge the efforts of the residents of Field, who really pulled together to make sure the family was cared for during the initial search operations. Their help was truly appreciated,” said Cst. Lainchbury.
On July 24, Parks Canada decided to scale back the search efforts.
Parks Canada will continue to regularly monitor the area in the coming weeks as water levels change with the objective of successfully locating the boy.
Downed Paraglider
Police will be assisting the BC Coroner’s Service after a paraglider was spotted downed near Mount 7 on July 24 just after 2 p.m.
Golden and District Search and Rescue were tasked to assist with the rescue, however the male, a 36 year-old from Invermere, was located deceased.
Missing Hiker
Later on July 24, a male was reported missing after failing to return from a hike near Emerald Lake. Parks Canada responded launching a full scale search.
The male, a 54 year-old from Golden, was located on Tuesday (July 26) morning. Parks Canada officials say he was found “safe and okay.” More details on the incident will be released later this week.
Motion Notion
Police also spent several hours conducting foot patrols and responding to calls at the Motion Notion music festival, held at the Beaverfoot over the weekend.
“All and all the festival didn’t cause a lot of issues for us this year,” said Cst. Lainchbury, who also noted that scheduling allowed for additional officers to work during the event.
Vehicles Impounded
Three vehicles were impounded for 7 days this week after Golden traffic services officers allege that they were travelling at excessive speeds.
The first two vehicles were impounded on July 19, with one vehicle travelling at 180 km/h, 90 km/h over the posted speed limit near Field, and the other travelling at 108km/h in the 60 km/h zone through Golden, impounded on July 22. All three drivers were also issued fines ranging from $368 to $483
