RCMP Report: Impaired driver flees into river

Police pulled over a vehicle near Wire Cache rest area. A male got out of the vehicle and ran from police into the river. BC Ambulance, Search and Rescue and additional RCMP members were activated.

The male was located shortly afterwards up the riverbank.

The man had a strong odor of liquor coming from him. Police entered into an impaired driving investigation and issued the driver a 90-day driving prohibition. The vehicle was impounded for 30 days.

Estimated total costs for towing charges, administrative penalties, and driver license reinstatement fees are approximately $7,000.

In addition, the male was arrested for breaching his court order as he was on a court-imposed condition to abstain from the consumption of alcohol.

 

Theft of vacuum cleaner

A female reported someone had stolen a $3,500 Rainbow vacuum cleaner from the porch of her residence on Clearwater Village Road.

Break-and-enter

Police were advised of a break-and-enter to the Sonora Inn in Avola. A 9000 watt generator was stolen.

Police attended and seized items for FIS (Forensic Identification Section) analysis to obtain fingerprints in attempts to identify the suspect(s).

Seeking information on break-ins

As reported in last week’s issue, the Home Hardware and Post Office in Clearwater were broken into and items stolen from both places.

On the same morning the break-ins occurred, a black Ford F150 crew cab limited edition model (believed to be a 2011 or 2012) pulled up to the Super Save gas station at 3:45 a.m.

Two males got out of the pickup, cut off a lock to a storage container and stole two 20 lb. propane tanks.

The following afternoon, police received information that someone had attempted to break into the local Fields store.

Sometime during the late night/early morning a person or persons pried open a wooden side door to the Fields with a stick.

Entry was not made to Fields and nothing was stolen.

As reported in the accompanying article, police have arrested two suspects in regards to the post office break-and-enter.

However, police still seek information that could lead to or confirm the identity of the suspects in the string of break-ins. If you know anything, please call Clearwater RCMP at 250-674-2237.

 

Prowlers at night

Police were called to a residence on Pumping Station Road as there were three unknown people walking around a person’s property in the middle of the night with flashlights.

Nothing was damaged or stolen from the property.

 

Local Traffic Services

Police received information of a tractor/trailer unit that was all over the highway near Avola, heading southbound toward Clearwater.

Police located and stopped the tractor/trailer. The driver was deemed to be impaired by alcohol and had open liquor inside the tractor.

He was issued a 90-day driving prohibition and the tractor was impounded for 30 days.

The driver was also issued approximately $1,000 in violation tickets under the BC Motor Vehicle Act and the Liquor Control Licensing Act.

The estimated total costs for towing charges, administrative penalties and driver’s license reinstatement fees on top of the $1,000 fine are approximately $7,000.

 

Detachment been busy

From Oct. 1 -9 Clearwater RCMP also investigated numerous other files (a few of them referred to below):

• 12 traffic complaints along Highway 5;

• four false alarms; and

• one query to locate people/tourists to check on their well-being.

 

Time for winter tires

The RCMP remind the general public that winter is fast approaching. You must change over to your winter tires as it’s required by law as of Oct. 1.
