Found bikes on RCMP Facebook page
The Golden-Field RCMP is now listing found bicycles turned in to them on their Facebook page. Be sure to take a look to make sure that your lost bike hasn’t been turned in. All bicycles are held for 90 days before being offered back to the finder or donated to charity.
RCMP involved in SPCA case
Local police assisted SPCA officers in executing a search warrant on two separate residences west of Golden on the afternoon of March 15. Officers attended and allege that they found that the animals at the first house did not have adequate food and water, and were taken in to the care of the SPCA.
One dog was taken from the second residence after officers alleged that the dog was not being cared for. A warning was also issued to the pet owner at the second residence to ensure that proper living conditions were made for the other animals.
Information sought about collision at McDonald’s
Police are asking anyone who may have seen a collision in the McDonald’s parking lot on February 25 to contact them at 250-344-2221 or Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-8477. Police are investigating after a report was received that a Black Ford Explorer was hit, sustaining significant damage, while parked at the restaurant sometime between noon and 4 p.m.
Penticton man taken into police custody
A 21 year-old male from Penticton spent the night in police custody after police allege he was intoxicated and yelling obscenities.
“Officers had multiple dealings with the male throughout the night, and encouraged him to find friends to take him home,” said Cst. Spencer Lainchbury, spokesperson for the Golden-Field RCMP. “When the male was seen after bar closing, lying on the ground and fighting with imaginary people, the decision was made to have him stay with police until sober.”
Aussie due to appear in court on drug charges
An Australian visitor is set to appear in Golden court later this year after police allege that they found him in possession of marijuana and psilocybin (mushrooms), during a traffic stop on March 20.
“The male indicated that he believed the possession of marijuana was legal in Canada, as he had bought it from a dispensary, but did not have an explanation for the mushrooms,” said Cst Lainchbury. “It appears that he found out the hard way that this was not the case.”
The male is facing charges for possession of a controlled substance. The Canadian Border Service Agency was advised of the arrest and pending charges and will continue to monitor the file for immigration purposes. If convicted the male could face deportation.
Police still investigating pickup theft
Police are continuing to investigate the theft of a pickup, trailer and skid steer that were stolen from a compound near 9th Street North. Both the truck and trailer were recovered by Creston RCMP; however the skid steer is still missing. Anyone with information regarding this theft is asked to contact the Golden-Field RCMP or Crimestoppers.
Sleeping male was in collision
Police and paramedics were called to a local restaurant on March 23 after staff noticed a male sleeping in a damaged car, and would not wake up. Officers were able to wake the male and determine that he had been in a collision somewhere near Rogers Pass overnight and had driven his car to the parking lot.
The male was not injured however his vehicle had to be towed due to the damage from the collision.
Snowmobile Blitz
Police stopped dozens of vehicles during a local traffic blitz this Easter Long Weekend.
“Officers conducted several road checks which included speed enforcement, snowmobile checks, stops for impaired driving, and a snowmobile patrol to the Gorman Lake area with BC Conservation,” said Cst. Lainchbury. “Within minutes of the first road check, officers recovered a stolen snowmobile from one vehicle and seized a small amount of marijuana from another.”
Several violation tickets were also issued throughout the weekend which saw local officers stop around 25 vehicles and check approximately 40 sleds.
Stolen items recovered
A local resident was lucky to be quickly reunited with several items stolen from her vehicle overnight on March 25.
“A number of items had been taken from a pickup parked on 6th Street South,” said Cst. Lainchbury. “Several of the items were then found by pedestrians, and turned in to police that morning.”
Local police are once again reminding people to lock their vehicles and remove anything valuable before leaving the vehicle unattended.
Police continue to investigate stolen truck
The Golden-Field RCMP is continuing to investigate the theft of a pickup from a local repair shop which was reported to them on March 26.
“The vehicle has since been recovered in Calgary, but we are looking to speak with anyone who may have information about the theft,” said Cst. Lainchbury. Tips can be provided by calling the local RCMP Detachment or anonymously through Crimestoppers.
GADSAR called to Spilli area
Police received two separate emergency beacons near the Spillamacheen Forest Service Road on the evening of March 26, which resulted in Golden and District Search and Rescue (GADSAR) being called to initiate a search.
“GADSAR was able to fly in to the area and determine that a male was feeling ill and required medical attention,” said Cst. Lainchbury. “The male was flown back to Golden with GADSAR to be assessed by medical staff at the Golden & District General Hospital. “On behalf of the Golden-Field RCMP we would like to extend our gratitude to the GADSAR personnel for yet another successful rescue mission.”
Fight at local gas station
Local police are continuing to investigate after being called to a fight at a gas station on March 26.
“Initial information is that the owner of the store went outside and confronted a group about stealing, at which point a physical fight between the owner and one of the customers ensued,” said Cst. Lainchbury. Police are looking to determine if assault charges will be forwarded.
Quebecker fails roadside screening
On March 19, just after 2:30 a.m., police stopped a vehicle near 9th Avenue and 13th Street South after the officer alleged that the driver failed to stop for a stop sign. While speaking with the driver, a 22 year old male from Quebec, the officer detected an odor of alcohol and formed the suspicion that the driver had been drinking.
“The male provided two samples of his breath in to two separate approved alcohol screening devices, which allegedly resulted in “fail” readings,” said Cst. Lainchbury. The driver was issued a 90 day driving suspension, and the vehicle was impounded for 30 days.
A small amount of marijuana was seized from a vehicle on Highway 1 on March 19. Officers allege that the driver was not wearing a seatbelt and conducted a traffic stop. While speaking with the driver an odor of marijuana was detected and resulting in a search and seizure. No charges are expected in relation to the marijuana; however the driver, a 59 year old male from Calgary, was issued a ticket for no seatbelt.
Goldenite given roadside prohibition
Police stopped a vehicle on Mar. 26 after the officer alleged that it failed to stop at not one, but two stop signs.
“After speaking with the driver, the officer formed the suspicion that the driver had been drinking alcohol,” said Cst. Lainchbury. “The officer alleges that the first breath sample resulted in a fail, at which point the driving prohibition and impounded process can be commenced. The driver was then given multiple chances to provide a second sample of breath, but refused to provide an adequate sample.”
As a result, the driver, a 37 year-old female from Golden, was issued a 90 day driving prohibition, and had her vehicle impounded for 30 days.
