Pets in hot vehicles
The Golden-Field RCMP would like to remind pet owners not to leave animals unattended in vehicles during hot weather.
“Each summer we see a number of calls in relation to animals being locked in hot cars, something that can be easily avoided,” said Cst. Spencer Lainchbury with the Golden-Field RCMP. Should you see an animal in distress, you can call 911 or the Golden-Field RCMP Detachment at 250-344-2221.
“Your first call should be to police. We do not recommend you take it upon yourself to rescue the animal.”
Highway collisions
Police responded to three collisions on the Trans-Canada Highway this week. No serious injuries were reported in any of the incidents.
Identity Theft
The Golden-Field RCMP are currently investigating a fraud incident after it was reported that $17,000 in transactions had been conducted in what appears to be theft of identity.
“We encourage everyone to always monitor their bank accounts, and immediately report any discrepancies to their financial institution,” said Cst. Lainchbury. Additionally some private companies will provide credit monitoring services for additional protection.
Stolen vehicle
Police are looking to identify a suspect after a vehicle was reported stolen on July 5. The initial report indicated that the vehicle had been taken from 8th St. S.
The vehicle was later found by the owner on 9th St. S., and multiple items inside were seized by police for fingerprinting. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact the Golden-Field RCMP at 250- 344-2221 or Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
Vandalized windshield
Local police are asking anyone with information regarding a vehicle being damaged on July 5 to contact them after a report was received that a rock had been deliberately thrown through the front windshield while parked on 10th St. S.
Drunk driver drove into runaway lane
An Australian resident who was in Canada on a work visa came into contact with police on July 6 after it was reported that his vehicle drove off the road into the runaway lane on 10 Mile Hill.
Police located the heavily intoxicated male, who was then arrested, passed out inside the vehicle. The incident has been reported to the Canadian Border Service Agency for review.
Assault on highway
Police responded to a report of an assault just off of Highway 1 near the old scales on July 6.
“Attending officers determined that a disagreement had taken place between two parties over the borrowing of a vehicle, resulting in one of the parties punching the other in the face,” said Cst. Lanchbury. The victim did not require any medical attention and declined to pursue charges.
Outstanding warrant
A 35 year-old female attended the Golden-Field RCMP Detachment on July 7 to turn herself in for an outstanding warrant.
The warrant had been issued after the female allegedly failed to appear in court to answer for charges stemming from a separate incident in Dawson Creek, B.C. The female was later released with a new court appearance date.
Drunk spends night in cells
A 34 year-old male spent the evening in police custody after police received a call that a male was passed out near a business on 9th Ave. N., during the early morning hours of July 9. Police were able to locate the male, who was intoxicated and unable to tell police where he lived. A drug pipe was also located and seized during the arrest. No charges are expected in relation to the incident.
Brawl Avoided
Police were called after it was reported that a group of males appeared to be gearing up for a fight on July 9 near 9th Ave. N. Officers determined that the group of males, in town for a stag party, had got into a heated debate over their favorite hockey teams. The group was moved along by police, and no further issues were reported.
Break and enters
The Golden-Field RCMP are looking for information after receiving two separate reports of businesses being broken into.
The first was reported on June 27, where it’s believed that an unknown suspect entered a building on 9th Ave N., gaining access to two separate businesses and stealing an undisclosed amount of cash.
The second report was received on July 5 after a business in Field noticed that a window had been smashed out overnight.
“It is not known whether the suspects gained entry to the building, and nothing was believed to have been taken,” said Cst. Lainchbury.

Tire Slashings
Local police are currently investigating a number of tire slashing incidents throughout Golden over the past several weeks. A number of vehicles were targeted on the south side of town this week on 14th and 9th St., however other vehicles have recently been targeted in other areas including the Mountain Shadows Trailer Park on Reflection Lake Rd.
“At this point we are putting out a request to the community for information,” said Cst. Lainchbury.
When asked about an increase in patrols, Cst. Lainchbury responded, “As a detachment I can say that we already cover a lot of ground during the course of our shifts. Keeping in mind we are responsible for policing an area that includes Field, Parson, Nicholson, and Rogers Pass, it’s just not possible for us to be on every street at every moment throughout our shift.”
Cst. Lainchbury also pointed out that although having this many files in such a short time period is discouraging, the numbers for the year are actually on the decline.
“In 2015 we responded to 43 mischief complaints between January 1 and July 10. So far this year we’ve only received 35 of these files.”
Citizens on Patrol
Another area police would like to focus on is recruiting and retaining community volunteers for groups such as Citizens On Patrol. The group had been operating for several years in Golden, however due to lack of volunteers, they stopped operating this spring.
“Volunteer groups help us out so much, and we always appreciate the extra set of eyes and ears. Without them operating, it’s just one less resource we have to rely on.”
