Clearwater RCMP were advised of a vehicle that had passed a Greyhound bus in Blue River.
The southbound white SUV had passed while traveling between 120 km/hr – 140 km/hr in the 70 km/hr speed zone and then cut the bus off.
Police set up in Clearwater and located the white BMW from Alberta. It was traveling 117 km/hr in the 60 km/hr speed zone on Highway 5 in front of Dairy Queen.
The drivers was issued a violation ticket for excessive speed costing $368. The vehicle was impounded for seven days.
During the investigation, police located rolled marijuana joints inside the vehicle and a small bag of MDMA (a psychoactive drug commonly known as ecstasy).
No charges have been forwarded at this time. The driver hired a local local taxi to drive him and his dog to Kamloops to rent a vehicle.
Driving without consideration
Police were advised of a vehicle doing donuts in front of Rotary Sports Park just as Clearwater Secondary School finished for the day.
Police attended but the vehicle was gone. Police photographed the evidence, made patrols around Clearwater and located the suspect vehicle an hour later at a local tire shop with winter tires in the back box of the truck.
After a discussion with the registered owner of the vehicle, the actual driver turned himself in at the RCMP Detachment.
The driver was issued a $368 violation ticket for driving without due care and attention.
Police could have charged the driver with “stunting” and could have impounded the vehicle for seven days.
Reminder: As a registered owner of a vehicle, you are responsible for the actions of the driver when you lend your vehicle out to a friend or a family member. You could be responsible/on the hook for any violations that occur.
Break-and-enter
Police were advised of a break-and-enter at the vacant Hillside Hotel in Avola.
Copper piping, wiring and other “trinkets” were stolen.
If you have any information that could lead to the identification of the suspects, call the local RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
Collision with a deer
Police were advised of a single vehicle collision with a deer near Sandhill Road on Highway 5.
Due to the significant front end damage, the vehicle could be a write-off.
The deer was located deceased off the highway nearby.
Family dispute
Police attended a local residence for a report of an assault.
Two family members, a mother and her 25-year-old son, had gotten into a heated argument that led to a physical altercation
There were minor injuries that did not require medical attention.
The two were separated and no charges have been forwarded at the request of the mother.
Animal complaints
Police investigated two animal complaints during the week, both involving the same dog.
An aggressive dog report was made just after it was reported that a local female had been bitten by the dog.
As a dog owner, you are responsible for the actions of your dogs and are responsible for any civil action taken against you.
Drugs located
Police attended Clearwater Secondary School after it was reported that marijuana and other drug paraphernalia had been located inside the school.
Police seized the items and the investigation in ongoing to locate the suspects involved where the transaction took place.
Traffic Services make drug arrests
Police stopped a northbound GMC Sierra pickup on Highway 5 near Blackpool. The vehicle was stopped as it was traveling at 123 km/hr in a posted 100 km/hr zone.
Police approached the vehicle and located a male driver and a female in the passenger seat. Once at the window police noted the moderate smell of green marijuana coming from the vehicle.
Both occupants were arrested for possession of a controlled substance.
A search of the vehicle located 11 pounds of marijuana and 94 oral syringes with marijuana resin in them.
Both occupants were then arrested for possession for the purpose of trafficking and later released on recognizances.
The male was on parole. It was revoked and a warrant of apprehension issued. The male’s truck was seized as offense-related property.
Enforcement blitz
During the week of Sept. 22 – 25 Clearwater RCMP Central Interior Traffic Services were joined by additional traffic enforcement officers and police K9 units to conduct enhanced traffic enforcement.
The communities of Blue River, Avola, Valemount, Clearwater, Little Fort, and Barriere saw an increase in traffic law enforcement throughout the week.
Police issued numerous violation tickets for various infractions, including speeding, no driver’s license, no vehicle insurance and other moving infractions.
Three immediate roadside prohibitions were issued for alcohol.
Two people were taken into custody on outstanding warrants. There were nine drug seizures, two of which came from commercial vehicles.
Police seized 64.5 lb. of marijuana from one traffic stop, and approximately $20,000 in currency from another traffic stop.
