Oceanside RCMP say a man they dubbed a ‘prolific nuisance offender’ in the Parksville Qualicum Beach area is currently in custody.
Police reported on Wednesday, Dec. 16 that they have received numerous calls since late August involving a suspect who “displayed a total disregard for people, their property or their business.”
Several ‘dine-and-dashes’, mischief calls (described as property destruction) and petty thefts, were all committed in the area by an alleged suspect with a similar description and modus operandi.

A press release stated that the General Investigation Section at the Oceanside RCMP reviewed the files, compiling evidence which included statements and video surveillance, in order to link the crimes. This in turn led police to one suspect, who they found to be responsible for more than a dozen of these offences.
On Dec. 10, 24-year-old Silas Jacob Janzen, of no fixed address, was arrested and held for a bail hearing on several proposed charges. The release stated that within hours of being released, Janzen allegedly re-offended and breached his conditions in three separate incidents.
Janzen was arrested once more and is currently in custody until his next bail hearing on Friday, Dec. 18.
We would like to extend our thanks to all the people who took the time to call the Oceanside RCMP to report these offences and provide quality accounts of what had transpired. Working together we can hold people accountable for their actions,
said Cpl. Jesse Foreman.
