The Oceanside RCMP said Tuesday they are seeking a “person of interest” in their ongoing investigation into the fire that destroyed the French Creek Bakery on April 28.

Witnesses tolk police they saw a male smoking a cigarette near the rear of the bakery in the moments just prior to the fire being reported. The RCMP are looking to identify and speak with the man in an effort to further the investigation, police announced in a written news release.

The man is described as a caucasian male, approximately 25-30 years old, 5’10” tall and 180 pounds, with short, dark hair. He was wearing a white shirt and blue jeans.

The French Creek Bakery fire occurred one day after another fire broke out at the nearby Sandcastle Bakery. The RCMP did not indicate whether their investigation has determined a connection between the two fires.

If you have any information please call the Oceanside RCMP at 250-248-6111 or report anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800 222 8477.
