RCMP are asking for the public’s help with an incident in which a man was assaulted then robbed in downtown Nanaimo.
According to a Nanaimo RCMP press release, the robbery happened at about 5 a.m. Feb. 8 near the intersection of Front and Bastion streets.
The 33-year-old victim said he went for an early morning walk to photograph and video some of the downtown core. Near the intersection of Front and Bastion streets he was met by two men and a woman. The woman saw that the victim was had his cellphone out and she began yelling at him and accusing him of recording her. One of two men accompanying the woman walked up to the victim and punched him in the head, causing him to fall to the ground.
The victim said he lost consciousness for a short period of time and when he came to, his cell phone and wallet were gone. He made his way to the Coast Bastion Hotel and with the assistance of a security guard, he retrieved his phone and personal identification from the three individuals.
The victim said he did not know the three adults and could provide only limited descriptions of them. The woman, he said, had red hair and the man who punched him was Caucasian with black hair and wore a black and white baseball cap. No description could be provided for the second man.
