RCMP: Suspect arrested after Parksville resort employee allegedly punched in face

Man was spotted cutting bike locks, say police

  • Dec. 1, 2020 12:00 a.m.

A 27-year-old man faces a robbery charge following a Nov. 19 incident at a Parksville resort in which police say an employee was punched in the face.

Oceanside RCMP issued a release stating that at approximately 11:15 p.m. on Nov. 19, they received a call indicating a robbery had just occurred at the resort. An employee was leaving work and noticed a man cutting bike locks in front of the business. The employee knew the bikes were property of the resort and therefore, confronted the man who was in the process of stealing two bicycles.

Police said when the suspect, later identified as 27-year-old Taylor Lee Carrigan, was confronted, he allegedly proceeded to punch the employee in the face, drop one bicycle and then flee on the other stolen bike.

The employee provided a very good description of the man to police who began patrolling the area.

At 11:30 p.m., two officers located and arrested Carrigan without incident. Police said when found, Carrigan was already in the process of disassembling the stolen bike.

Carrigan has been released by the courts and will make his next appearance on Dec. 8 to face a charge of robbery.

Generator found

Oceanside RCMP also reported that in late October, a generator was turned in and they have not been able to locate the rightful owner. They are asking the public for assistance finding the owner.

Police believe this generator is possibly stolen and the owner has yet to come forward or report it. The generator is a portable 3,500-watt gas-powered unit. If this is your generator or you know who the owner may be, call Cst. Javoric of the Oceanside RCMP at 250-248-6111. If you can describe the generator and provide a serial number or proof of purchase, police wish to return it.
