The Regional District of East Kootenay is seeking nominations for the 2020 Electoral Area Volunteer of the Year award.

If anyone knows of an outstanding volunteer in the rural areas of the RDEK region, they are encouraged to put forth a nomination. Just like in past years, RDEK will be honouring one outstanding volunteer or couple from each of its six electoral areas.

“It is an honour for us to be able to recognize volunteers each year,” said RDEK board chair Rob Gay. “There is no question about the important role volunteerism plays in every community and in our rural areas, volunteers truly are the heart of our community.”

Nominees must be residents of an electoral area and make voluntary contributions to the spirit, culture or people of the community.

In June, the RDEK volunteers of the year for 2019 were announced. The winners were Pat Gilmar in electoral area A, Lloyd Taylor in area B, Kevin Higgs in area C, Wendy Davis in area E, Cam Gillies in area F and Anne Jardine in area G.

All of the winners were recognized for outstanding commitment to the community and to volunteering.

“Last year, we added the ability to complete an online nomination and had an incredible response, so there is an online option again this year,” added Gay. “For those who don’t have access to a computer, hard copies of the nomination forms are also available.”

To fill out a nomination form online, visit Engage.rdek.bc.ca. Forms can also be picked up at the Cranbrook and Columbia Valley RDEK offices.

The deadline for nominations is 4:30 p.m. on January 31, 2020.
