The Regional District of Nanaimo has selected an electrical service provider for maintenance and repair of wastewater facilities.
The RDN board awarded a three-year, $600,000 deal ($200,000 per year) to Shaw Electrical Services at its May 22 meeting. Under terms of the deal, Shaw will provide on-call electrical maintenance and repair services at the regional district’s four wastewater treatment facilities – Greater Nanaimo, French Creek, Nanoose and Duke Point pollution control centres – 23 pump stations and two septage reception sites.
The regional district’s wastewater services department had issued a request for proposals in March and Shaw was one of two proponents.
According to a regional district staff report, Shaw held a previous contract for the same services with the RDN and had “relevant project experience,” offering services to the City of Nanaimo, Nanaimo Airport and the Pacific Biological Station. It received “strong references” from those organizations and is also electrical maintenance service provider for the regional district wastewater services department, the report said.
There is an option to extend the deal for two years.
