There could be dramatically expanded transit access to Bowser/Deep Bay by this time next year.
“We are proposing that this route (#99 Deep Bay) be extended from one day a week to five days a week,” Daniel Pearce, Regional District of Nanaimo (RDN) Manager of Transit OperationsĀ told The NEWS after an information presentation to Parksville council last week.
“Most likely the route will operate Tuesday to Saturday,” he said of the proposed change from it’s current Tuesday only schedule that was established in 2012.
But Pearce was quick to point out that is a preliminary since, “The schedule has not yet been set since we are still in the consultation phase.”
He encouraged interested people to do the Qualicum Beach transit survey and get lots more information online at https://bctransit.com/nanaimo/transit-future, including a 25 year transit plan.
Pearce did say “the times will be very similar to the current route,” which currently leaves Woodgrove Mall in Nanaimo 9:03 a.m. and
3:05 p.m., arrives in Deep Bay about an hour later and leaves at 10:10 a.m. and 4:40 p.m. for the return trip.

The expansion is proposed to start in September, 2017.
For people interested in transportation issues in Area H there was a recent open house on the RDN’s “active transit plan,” as part of the ongoing OCP (official community plan) update process for the electoral area.
