RDN receives money for emergency preparedness programs

Union of B.C. Municipalities awards two $25,000 grants to Regional District of Nanaimo

The Regional District of Nanaimo will upgrade emergency preparedness programs, thanks to $50,000 in grants from the Union of B.C. Municipalities.

According to an RDN press release this week, the UBCM recently awarded two grants of $25,000 each through its Community Emergency Preparedness Fund.

One grant will be used to support Emergency Management British Columbia’s emergency support services modernization project to provide Emergency Support Services with an online evacuee registration assistance capability in the event of an emergency and increase the availability of group lodging supplies.

The second grant will support development of a mobile emergency communications trailer, which can operate from remote locations to manage emergency communications to and from the RDN emergency operations centre.
