Regional District of Nanaimo is restricting the number of passengers on buses to help prevent the spread of the coronavirus.
According to a COVID-19 update from the regional district, starting today, March 27, RDN Transit buses will now be limited to 20 passengers, with drivers turning on the ‘bus is full’ sign and refusing additional passengers after capacity is reached. Passengers will again be accepted after rider numbers drop and standby buses will be called in to pick up waiting passengers, the RDN said.
RDN Transit recommends passengers avoid travel unless it is essential.
The rider limit is the latest in measures introduced by the RDN since the COVID-19 pandemic was declared. RDN Transit previously directed passengers to board through the rear doors unless they have accessibility issues, and also temporarily waived bus fares to limit interaction between bus drivers and customers.
Buses are being sanitized daily, the RDN also said.
