Rebuilt road to Silver Valley opens partially next week

$8.6-million, one-kilometre project for Maple Ridge

The road to Silver Valley is re-opening next week.

Maple Ridge city said that 232nd Street, undergoing an $8.6-million rebuild, will reopen Tuesday, Sept. 4. The road will only be open to single lane, alternating traffic during the daytime, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. But after work hours, the road will re-open to two-lane traffic.

A city release on Wednesday, said the road will follow that schedule until the project is completed early next year, with the final coat of asphalt laid down in the spring 2019.

“We appreciate your continued patience as we strive towards the final completion of this project,” said the release.

By the time everything’s done, there will be a new round-about leading on to 132nd Ave., new storm sewers, retaining walls, a bicycle path and sidewalk and street trees.

MRC Total Build LP was awarded the contract for the project which goes from 132nd Avenue to Silver Valley Road.

The project entails includes roadway construction, embankment fill, retaining walls, reconstruction and extension of driveways on to private properties, a multi-use bike path, sidewalk, curbs and a southbound bike lane.

Ducting for future fibre optic cable, LED street lighting, a roundabout north of the North Alouette Bridge, storm sewer, ditch infill and an environmental remediation are all included.

Total cost for the project will be $8.6 million with consultation, design and property aquisition costs added in, with $5.7 million of that paid through development cost charges.
