A report of a distraught person sent Surrey RCMP racing to a property in the 1300-block of 176 Street Thursday afternoon.
Police were alerted to the incident at approximately 2:30 p.m. More than a dozen police units – including an armoured truck – responded, as well as an ambulance.
At the scene, attention was focused on a property with greenhouses, located on the east side of 176 Street, and police – noting reports of a suicidal man walking around with a rifle – were advising members of the public to avoid the area or stay inside.

Traffic along 176 Street was closed in both directions between 8 and 16 Avenues, and drivers were told to plan alternate routes.
An RCMP news release issued shortly after 4 p.m. said police were dealing with “a distraught person.”
“The investigation is ongoing and multiple police units are on the scene,” the release stated.
At 5:45 p.m., a second news release advised that the incident had been resolved, and “there are no safety concerns for the general public.”
The release did not share further information, including the age of the man involved, or whether anyone was taken into custody.
It was 11 months ago that officers were called to the same area after reports of a shooting. That incident resulted in non-life-threatening injuries for one man, and charges against another after a late-night standoff.
