The city will apply for funding to build an amphitheatre at Mill Lake Park through the Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program.
To celebrate Canada’s 150th anniversary in 2017, $150 million in federal funding is available to municipalities for projects that expand community use of public facilities.
Council was presented with options for its proposal: the completion of the MRC sports complex; creating a pedestrian crossing at Highway 1 and a boardwalk connection to Hazelwood Place for Discovery Trail; enhancements to the historic brick plant and park at Clayburn Village; enhancements to an area in the civic precinct for celebrations and community gatherings; and the amphitheatre.
Coun. Ross Siemens said selecting the amphitheatre is “a great message our council can send to the arts community that they are vitally important to a vibrant economy.”
