Hope Search and Rescue searched the banks of the Fraser and Coquihalla rivers starting at 12 noon Friday, Aug. 10, after RCMP received a call from someone who had spotted what they thought was a body.
The anonymous call was made to the RCMP and couldn’t be verified, Staff Sgt. Karol Rehdner said, as the caller couldn’t be reached back after the first call. The only information the RCMP received was that there was a body in the water, no other details were given.
There were no other callers who spotted anything similar, despite the banks of the Fraser River filled with fishers on the second day of the recreational fishery. Rehdner said the Hope RCMP also contacted the Agassiz RCMP detachment about the call.
Search and rescue were also called out earlier in the day for an accident on Highway 3, where a vehicle had gone down an embankment. Rescuers successfully passed the patients over to the BC Ambulance Service, one of whom was transported from the scene by air ambulance.
