A Qualicum Beach resident has raised concerns about drivers speeding on Memorial Avenue.
Steve Hertling brought his concerns to the Qualicum Beach council and also informed the Oceanside RCMP.
Hertling said Memorial Avenue owners and residents have a right to enjoy a quality of life equal to other citizens in Qualicum Beach.
“Address the speeding on Memorial Avenue,” Hertling suggested in his correspondence with the town and the RCMP. “This problem has been ignored for many years and can be addressed with police enforcement or permanent installation of photo radar.”
Hertling asked if the town can install photo radar or lease equipment in partnership with ICBC.

“Municipalities in West Vancouver and West Kelowna are currently seeking the legal right to install photo radar in their communities to address their speeding problems,” claimed Hertlng.
Hertling also wanted council to something about excessive vehicular noise.
“Excessive nose is a growing concern for all Canadian communities,” said Hertling. “Law-breakers should be fined and dealt with, not continually ignored.”
Coun. Teunis Westbroek made a motion directing staff to refer Hertling’s letter to the Oceanside RCMP and ask that they pay special attention to the concerns raised. Council approved the motion.
“There’s been a lot of speeding complaints but in this case it’s along Memorial and I think it may be appropriate for the RCMP to be more effective in that area,” said Westbroek.
