Residents earn water refund

Enderby residents can look forward to getting a few extra bucks back from the city

Enderby residents can look forward to getting a few extra bucks back from the city.

Following the first year of metered billing for water, Enderby ended up with a surplus of $39,870.

“It looks like every home is going to get around $26 and some change,” said Mayor Greg McCune, who is pleased to see the 2015 rates didn’t have the city coming back to residents saying, ‘oops, we didn’t charge enough.’

“At the time of setting the rates we wanted to err on the side of charging people too much rather than not enough.”

The first year also provided some instrumental numbers to Enderby, such as the fact that 68.3 per cent of residences paid the same or less than they would have if the non-metered flat rates were still in place.

“We now have some pretty good data,” said McCune.

“It’s evident that the outside water usage is the biggest culprit to a big bill.”

The city continues to work with individual homes who experienced problems with the new rate structure.
