As school trustees met for their first public meeting as the new board representing the Vernon School District, they had the opportunity to learn a little more about the election that got them there.
At Tuesday’s district board meeting, chief election officer Dennis Bristow explained that of the 8,792 ballots issued to voters in the City of Vernon and Electoral Areas B & C, there were 6,057 that were undervoted, and 2,684 that were left blank when it came to voting for trustees.
“The school district elections are more unique than the other elections, so I embellished a little in my report, just to break it down for everyone,” said Bristow. “There was a large percentage of voters in the City of Vernon who undervoted — 30 per cent of voters left the ballots blank when it came to trustees, instead voting only for mayor and councillors.”
For Regional District of North Okanagan Electoral Areas B and C, 2,000 ballots were printed, and 186 were issued.
For Village of Lumby, 2,000 ballots were printed, with 662 issued and 622 accepted — 39 were rejected and three were spoiled.
For RDNO Electoral Areas D and E, 207 ballots were issued and accepted.
