VicPD police dog Bondo will be added to the wall of honour in the lobby of the Victoria police station after the retired member of the K9 unit died over the weekend.
Bondo, who worked with the unit from December 2010 until May 2018, was 9 years old.
Bondo’s handler, Sgt. Calvin Ewer, said the German Shepherd “loved every aspect of being a working dog” and shared a birthday with Ewer’s daughter. “He made a real connection with my family which was very special for me.”

When Bondo retired in May, he was replaced by a new service dog named Havoc, but Ewer said if it was up to Bondo he would have preferred to keep at it.
“Bondo worked for almost eight years and deserved to enjoy retirement,” he said.
In a tweet, VicPD said: “Our thoughts are with Bondo’s handler and family.”
