Almost $385,000 in Columbia Basin Trust funds and $20,000 in grants-in-aid were awarded to Revelstoke community groups at council’s meeting on Tuesday.

Council voted to approve funding for the Columbia Basin Trust Commmunity Initiatives and Affected Areas Fund. In total they awarded $384,144 to 48 different community groups; the groups had applied for $641,955 in funding.

Some groups got all the money they asked for, while others received only a portion. The funding is decided by a committee of five residents who are appointed by city council and Loni Parker, the director for Rural Revelstoke. Council and Parker must agree to the allocations.

Council also voted to allocate $20,103.75 in grants-in-aid for this year. The money is going to 18 different community groups. The city budgeted $25,000 in GIA funds for 2016.

The allocations were decided by the city’s finance committee and approved by council.
