Revelstoke Mountain Resort is adding new cabins to the Revelstoke Gondola to help alleviate lift lines at the bottom, like this one from opening day on 2015.

Revelstoke Mountain Resort will be adding capacity to the Revelation Gondola and Stoke Chair to relieve lift lines, the resort announced today.

They will also be opening the gondola to the top this summer.

In a news release, RMR said it will be adding 24 new cabins to the gondola, increasing its capacity by 25 per cent, and 21 new chairs to the Stoke.

Combined, the new chairs will increase the hills lift capacity to 9,700 skiers per hour from 7,299 skiers per hour.

“The combination of adding more gondola cabins and chairs will enable our guests to do more of what they love – skiing Revelstoke’s 3,121 acres of world-class terrain and increasing the speed of the lift lines by 25%,” said Peter Nielsen, RMR’s vice president of operations, in a statement.

Long lift lines, particularly on powder days, have become an increasing issue over the years as the resort has grown in popularity.

The resort is also looking at cutting a run from the top of the gondola to the Ripper Chair.

“Cutting a direct line to the north side of the mountain would allow guests to access the Ripper and more of their favourite terrain faster than ever before,” said Nielsen. “However, we’re still in the process of getting the area surveyed to see if this will be possible to implement for next season.”

There is a road that goes from the top of the gondola to the Ripper, but it features several uphill sections and is closed to the public.

The resort also announced an expansion of summer operations. The gondola will run to the top and new hiking trails will be open to the public.

RMR revealed its summer ticket prices. A ride up the gondola will cost $35 for an adult and $18 for children 6-12. A package including a ride up the gondola, a breakfast buffet and a ride on the coaster will cost $69 for adults and $36 for children 6-12.

The cost of a ride on the Pipe has been increase to $25 from $19.
