The Revelstoke RCMP is investigating after two local businesses were broken into early Monday morning.

In the first incident, culprits entered a local cafe via the rear door and pried open the cash box and stole the float and tips.

In the second incident, the suspects pried open the front door of a clothing store and stole cash and made a mess of the store.

“The RCMP wishes to remind all property owners to be vigilant in securing their property, ensuring that locks are effective, and that valuable items are kept out of sight,” wrote Staff-Sgt. Kurt Grabinsky in a news release. “During busy times such as long weekends, the RCMP are responding to multiple calls, and not always able to proactively patrol all streets and lanes. It is suggested that business should be well lit at night, windows clear of obstructions, and all cash secured.”

Police also recommend installing closed circuit television cameras to help deter thieves, monitor shoplifting and so police have evidence for their investigations.

Anyone with information about these crimes is asked to call the Revelstoke RCMP at 250-837-5255 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
