Just in case someone approaches you to ask about your business property, saying the local chamber of commerce wants to buy it, don’t fall for it or get into any discussion about any kind of offer.
It’s a scam, says the Maple Ridge-Pitt Meadows Chamber of Commerce.
It’s not exactly certain what the potential scammer is after or what is the motive.
Chamber executive-director Andrea Madden said Thursday that a woman purporting to be from the chamber approached a business owner Wednesday, saying she from the chamber and interested in buying the property.
That sounded fishy and is something the chamber wouldn’t do, Madden pointed out.
The chamber issued a warning by e-mail to its members on Thursday, then heard from three other members who’ve also been approached.
But the chamber isn’t moving from its spot that it shares with Tourism Maple Ridge-Pitt Meadows on Harris Road.
“We just want to make sure we stop it and inform the community that it’s going on,” Madden said.
