Ridge Meadows RCMP are currently investigating a brazen act of violence which occurred in the early morning hours of Saturday July 13th, 2013.
A police officer was in the area of the 25800 block of Spilsbury Road in Maple Ridge, when he observed two males hiding in the bushes and acting suspicious.
When the police officer approached the males to investigate further, they fled on foot. The police officer continued to seek out the males using his police vehicle. As the males were fleeing, one of the men was observed drawing a firearm and fired it towards the police officer and the police vehicle.
Ridge Meadows RCMP, with the assistance of the Lower Mainland Police Dog Services, was not able to locate the males after an extensive search of the area.
Cpl. Alanna Dunlop said, “This was an overt act of violence towards a uniformed police officer that will not be tolerated in our community. Fortunately, no one was injured in this incident, but we are aggressively pursuing all leads to identify these individuals and hold them accountable for these violent actions. Ridge Meadows RCMP continue to investigate, using the resources of the general investigation section, and lower mainland forensic identification services. Ridge Meadows RCMP is asking the public, who may have any information regarding this incident that occurred at approximately 3:30 in the morning, to call the Ridge Meadows RCMP, or Crimestoppers.”
The males are described as dark skinned, wearing dark coloured hoodies. It is believed that they fled from the area.
