Tenants at Riverside Place can now enjoy easy access to Riverside Park thanks to the arrival of their new Club Car.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held on September 13 outside Riverside Place to reveal the new eight-seater vehicle to the public.
Helen Frederick, an administrator at Riverside Place started seeking funding for the Club Car about a year ago because tenants were frustrated about not being able to access Riverside Park and the Farmers Market easily due to mobility challenges that many of them.
Funding for the car came from a few different areas including a donation from the family of the late Jean Giesbrecht, who was one of the first tenants to move into the assisted living apartments at Riverside Place.
District Grant Writer Janice Baker helped the cause by sending grant proposals and funding requests to various companies, foundations and service clubs. Other donations from various others were also received.
Funding received also helped to pay for the construction of a shed in which to store the vehicle.
The electricity-powered club car arrived in Vanderhoof in July and has been used several times throughout the summer.
The tenants and staff of Riverside Place wish to thank all of the funders of the project.
