The City of Parksville advises the public of a planned closure of Northwest Bay Road between Gabriola Drive and Terrien Road at the boundary of the City of Parksville from Aug. 6 to Aug. 15.
The purpose of this closure is to enable the safe and efficient replacement of existing twin corrugated steel pipe culverts at Craig Creek by the City of Parksville.

The Craig Creek culverts located on Northwest Bay Road just west of Terrien Road at city’s boundary were identified for upgrade in 2017. Craig Creek, a salmon and trout stream, passes through the culverts under Northwest Bay Road. The culverts have presented problems of failing headwalls, elevated inlet and outlets restricting the movement of fish and capacity concerns during peak winter stream flows. This project falls under the scope of the Fisheries Act as well as the Species at Risk Act.
Other general traffic interruptions
During construction, traffic will be controlled in all directions for both cars and pedestrians. Expect interruptions to traffic flow and intermittent alternating single-lane usage. We ask for the patience of the public, the contractor will complete this work as efficiently and safely as possible. For the public’s safety, the instructions provided by traffic control must be obeyed.
