Teck Coal’s Road Rehabilitation & Access Management Workshop scheduled for Oct. 28 has been cancelled due to Dr. Bonnie Henry’s announcement made on Oct. 26, restricting gatherings in homes due to a record high of new cases over the weekend.
“Building trusting relationships with our communities is a top priority for Teck, and we are disappointed we are unable to meet in person,” said Norman Fraser, Lead of Indigenous Initiatives for Teck.
“Safety will always come first at Teck, and we hope to host an in-person engagement when the circumstances allow for safe interactions.”
The meeting was scheduled in an effort to discuss priority areas for road deactivation, land access and historical trail use on Teck land.
Though the workshop has not yet been postponed to a later date, the public is encouraged to join Teck’s Annual Recreationalist Meeting held on Dec. 2 over Zoom, where according to Fraser, residents can expect to see road rehabilitation and access management on the agenda.

Furthering conversation about the Elk Valley Cumulative Effects Management Framework’s recent road deactivation, the Elkford ATV Club put forth a delegation at Elkford’s Regular Council Meeting on Oct. 26.
“We asked the District to bring any new maps forward to the residents to allow for consultation and comments, and to form a committee to be able to talk about all trails around Elkford and the Elk Valley,” said President of the Elkford ATV Club, Murray Haight, who furthered that they are now waiting to hear back from council.
