Robbery suspect nabbed minutes after mugging

Police use store's surveillance video to crack the case

A Victoria man was arrested 45 minutes after police say he robbed a 34-year-old Sooke man who had just withdrawn cash from a bank machine in Victoria on Saturday.

Police say the mugging happened in the parking lot of a 7-Eleven convenience store at 811 Bay St., around 3:30 a.m.

Investigators recognized the 45-year-old suspect from the store’s surveillance video, and went to his home, Russell said.

The suspect, who is well known to police, was apprehended without incident in the 700-block of Queens Ave., near his home.

“The victim thought that a gun was produced, but that information was not corroborated,” Victoria police spokesperson Const. Mike Russell said in a press release.

He was expected to appear in court Monday to face a robbery charge.
