The Golden Rockets game that was scheduled for Friday, Nov. 20 against the Revelstoke Grizzlies at the Plywood Palace has been postponed, as the Town of Golden awaits further clarification on the new restrictions announced yesterday.
A make-up date will be announced in the near future, according to the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League.
The KIJHL will be moving forward with their weekend games, according to a statement from the league.
“Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic in March, the KIJHL has made the health and safety of our athletes, staff, volunteers, billet families and fans our top priority,” read the statement.
“In doing so, we have closely observed all of the guidance and protocols outlined by the Province of British Columbia, the Provincial Health Officer, Viasport, Hockey Canada and BC Hockey, as well as our team’s home facilities. Yesterday, Dr. Bonnie Henry announced additional province-wide restrictions, and we have been working hard to clarify their impact on our league.
It’s the KIJHL’s understanding, through consultation with BC Hockey, that the new provincial restrictions impact travel outside of a team’s health region.
All 17 teams participating in the 2020/21 KIJHL season operate within the geographic boundaries of Interior Health.
Travel within the league has already been reduced through the introduction of regional cohorts that include a maximum of four teams.
We will also continue to support decisions made at the local level regarding access to team facilities.
“We recognize that circumstances can change quickly, and we will update our plans should the restrictions in place change,” read the statement.
“The KIJHL appreciates the patience and support of our fans, volunteers, billet families and sponsors as we navigate this process.”
The Rockets game in Sicamous on Saturday is scheduled to proceed as planned.
