Rockies prove their might against Falcons’ flight at Nakusp Arena

The Bantam Falcons team fought hard against one of their toughest rivals.

It was another rough game for the Nakusp Falcons Bantam team as they were defeated by the Castlegar Rockies on Jan. 15.

The Rockies defeated the Falcons with a score of 11-1.

Because of league tournament scheduling and the dissolution of the Midway Bantam team, this was the first game the Falcons Bantam team have played since the end of November.

Getting back into the swing of things wasn’t an easy task, especially against one their toughest opponents.

The tone of the game was set early as the Rockies scored the first goal of the game about five and a half minutes into the first period. By the end of the period the Rockies managed to bring the score up 3-0.

Things looked hopeful in the game’s second period, with Aidan Hascarl scoring a goal for the Falcons, but it would be their only goal of the game.

This isn’t the first time the two teams have gone up against each other in a league game.

“We’ve played them twice,” said Isaac Flamand, team captain for the Falcons. “The first game we played them wasn’t so bad, the second game was really bad, and this game was really bad.”

Flamand thinks part of the reason the team didn’t do very well was exhaustion. He admitted some team members stayed up later than they probably should have the night before.

He also thinks the game was a little one-sided because players from the Rockies were physically larger than their Falcons counterparts.

“It kind of threw us off, I think, thinking we were going to get hurt,” he said. “We also have a bunch of newer players that don’t know how to skate and hold onto the puck really good.”

Falcons have been working hard this season on their passing and play-making skills. Though there are many new comers to the team this year, players are improving and getting better all the time.

Though it was a rough game, Flamand and the rest of the Falcons are looking forward to the tournament on their home ice this coming weekend and hope to bring home the gold medal, if all goes to according to plan.
