The Rocky Mountain Village Auxiliary Society (RMVAS) joined forces with Fernie Canadian Tire to gift each resident of Rocky Mountain Village (RMV) a cozy lap blanket and personalized Christmas card this holiday season.
The gifts were wrapped up alongside a platter of cookies, ready to be handed to each resident in the RMV’s full care facility on Dec. 14.
“Everyone gets a gift every single year, except this year it’s just a little bit different because we can’t go in so we’re trying to do things remotely,” said volunteer, Rosa Rocca.
Unable to host their typical annual holiday party for RMV residents, RMVAS volunteers further ensured everyone at RMV felt the holiday love by making each unit a customizable Christmas tree with Velcro ornaments.
“There are lots of people in here that don’t have family close by,” said Saran Press, RMVAS volunteer.
“This year it’s even tougher, so it’s just so important that we can try to look after the pillars of our community, the elderly, and lift their spirits.”
According to Press, Fernie Canadian Tire generously covered majority of the cost for the 51 blankets.
“When we decided we wanted to give the lap blankets, they were out of our price range, but Fernie Canadian Tire stepped right up for us,” said Press.
“They just wanted to do something for the seniors as well, so they gave us all the blankets within our budget.”
Anyone seeking to donate to the RMVAS, a non-profit dedicated to providing items of comfort to RMV residents, can do so by mailing donations to RMVAS, Rocky Mountain Village, 55 Cokato Road, Fernie, BC, V0B 1M4.
