Rossland Public Library receives over $80,000 toward renewal project

The library has received a second grant worth over $80,000 towards its renewal project.

The Rossland Public Library has received a second grant worth over $80,000 towards its renewal project.

The library has received a Federal Gas Tax Fund Strategic Priorities Grant worth $80,900 towards its renewal project, which will likely proceed to tender before the end of the month.

“Right before Christmas we received a gaming grant and that was [$80,900] and that gave us the money to start the project, so we’re actually in the process of going to tender and then we heard we got this grant,” explains Beverley Rintoul, library director. “We were a little nervous because our last quantity survey was a few years ago and I’m sure prices have gone up, so this makes us truly ready to go.”

The grant means that the library board shouldn’t have to worry about scaling back any part of the project to make the budget work.

“But I’m still telling people, they can still donate and make this library the fabulous library that Rossland deserves,” says Rintoul.

It’s not yet known when construction will begin, as Rintoul says that will depend on the contractor who wins the tender.

The Rossland Library Renewal project includes tripling the space in the children’s area, relocating the office to the back of the building so that the front windows are opened up for more seating and technical upgrades.
