From gold panning to a mountain hike to taking your picture with a Mountie, this year’s Canada Day has a little something for everyone to celebrate.
For the fourth year in a row, the City of Rossland is partnering with the Rossland Museum & Discovery Centre for Canada Day Celebration 2018.
This event will take place on the RMDC grounds on Sunday, July 1, beginning in the morning at 8 a.m. with the annual Mt. Roberts hike, led by Friends of the Rossland Range (FORR) and ending in the evening with a live band and fireworks.
Admission for all the festivities from morning until evening is by donation.
The afternoon kicks off at 12 noon and runs until 3 p.m. The Kid’s Pavilion Tent will feature free arts and crafts like Columbia River Rock Painting (cabine & Wild by Nature), recycling your t-shirt into a reusable bag (Bombshack) and face painting (RMDC).
Activities include Gold Panning (Dan Wehrle), Nature Playground (One Tree Adventures), Duck Pond (RMDC) and Touch a Truck (City of Rossland).
Afternoon family friendly entertainment will feature the Golden City Fiddlers, The Nadi Tree Yoga for Kids, DJ Jazzy Jo and the Gold Fever Follies.
Food trucks for the afternoon include Cahoots Kitchen, Low Key Catering, Cahoots BBQ Wagon and Happy Ice Pops among others.
Kids will enjoy a photo opportunity with an RCMP officer in full uniform and the Canada Day cake (Sweet Dreams Cakery) cutting will be led by our very own Mayor Kathy Moore.
The evening activities launch at 6 p.m. with local band Kiana Tingley.
The Flying Steamshovel is primary sponsor of live band “Petunia & The Vipers” while the Rossland Beer Company, Cahoots Kitchen and Headphone Entertainment have joined together as co-sponsors for the evening. Cahoots Kitchen will be on site and a fireworks display will conclude the event.
Kootenay Gateway Mountain Shuttle will run a complimentary service from downtown to the museum and back throughout the evening.
