It was a busy day for rounding up hazardous waste products in the North Okanagan.
The Regional District of North Okanagan (RDNO) hosted its annual Household Hazardous Waste Roundup last Saturday in Vernon, Enderby and Lumby.
Newalta, the primary contractor for the event, filled 127 drums, and 146 pails with flammables, poisons, corrosives, antifreeze, fuel, waste oil, and a myriad of other unknown chemicals.
In addition, the Battery Doctors donated their services to collect the following materials:
– 11,287 litres of paint;
– 53 automotive batteries;
– 95 kg household batteries;
– 22 litres of aerosols;
– 33 four-foot fluorescent tubes;
– 56 CFLs.
“We were pleased that North Okanagan residents once again took the time to safely dispose of their household hazardous waste,” said Dale Danallanko, RDNO’s recycling and disposal facilities operations manager.
“The event would not be possible without the support of volunteers from the Enderby and Vernon Lions Clubs, and firefighters from the Enderby and Lumby Volunteer Fire Departments. Staff from Newalta and the Battery Doctors also worked hard throughout the day to ensure residents were served quickly and safely.”
