Residents of a quiet Langford neighbourhood received a first-hand glimpse of their local police force in action on Saturday night.
Shortly after 8 p.m. a West Shore RCMP patrol officer travelling on Bray Avenue in Langford stopped a Ford Explorer for violating the Motor Vehicle Act. The SUV driver stopped near Knotty Pine Road and a man left the vehicle via the right rear door. The officer recognized the man, who had an outstanding warrant for his arrest for breaching a Conditional Sentence Order. The man attempted to flee, but was caught after a short distance by the officer.
Police found a loaded starter pistol, knives and drugs concealed in the man’s waistband.
“Though starting pistols don’t fire actual rounds, the resemblance between those and an actual handgun is frightening and spikes a police officer’s threat level immensely,” said West Shore RCMP spokesperson Const. Alex Berube. “Luckily nobody was injured during this intervention.”
Daymon Fortin-MacGregor, 21, appeared in Western Communities Provincial Court on Monday to face charges on one count of possession of a controlled substance and two counts of possessing a weapon for dangerous purpose.
