A rural Lumby residence sustained significant smoke damage during a fire Saturday.
Firefighters were called to a mobile home in the 300 block of Albers Road, off Mabel Lake Road, at about 6:12 p.m.
“Smoke was coming out from under the addition,” said Tony Clayton, Lumby fire chief.
“The neighbours were doing everything they could to keep the fire under control with garden hoses until we got there.”
Because of electrical issues, firefighters’ activities were limited until B.C. Hydro could disconnect the power.
The cause of the fire is suspected to be electrical.
The firefighters were on scene for three hours and the occupant of the home is receiving assistance from Emergency Social Services.
As a result of the fire, the Lumby Fire Department is issuing a request to residents of Albers Road.
“None of the houses have address signs,” said Clayton of the rural properties.
“We’re asking people to put up house numbers because that helps us reach the site in a timely manner.”
On the way back to the hall, firefighters dealt with a vehicle fire on Vernon Street in Lumby at 10 p.m.
