The S.A.M.S Soccer trip was a success for the junior team and senior team. The seniors were competing in the zone championships in Prince George and exhibition games prior to zones in Williams Lake. The senior team first had an exhibition game against the AAA Williams Lake team and managed to stay with them for most of the game, the final score was 5-1 for them, but the team showed great effort and teamwork. At the zones, the team placed sixth. They were in most of the games but the competition was very good this year. The seniors also really helped display excellent sportsmanship at the tournament and leadership for our juniors.
The Juniors first faced off against the Lake City Falcons which was the Williams Lake team. Their team was made up of all grade eight’s and nine’s, compared to our team which had mostly six/seven’s and a couple grade eight’s. They were also a triple A team, when we were a single A team. We didn’t win against them, but it was a good learning experience. Our second game was against Northside Juniors who were from Vanderhoof. They scored the first goal against us, and then in the second half Morgan sent an amazing through ball to Jaymen who shot it straight into the bottom corner.
Then the game was all tied up. We had many other chances but we couldn’t manage to score them and then the game ended 1-1. Our last game was the championship game. About two minutes into the game Leif got the ball near half court and fired a gigantic shot towards the net. The goalie tried to grab it but the ball bounced off his chest and Haydn shot it low and into the near corner. Later throughout the game we were struggling against them though, they were playing all their eight’s and nine’s.
They had tons of good chances but our amazing goalkeeper Tyler kept them from scoring. Afterwards in the second half Andrew back heeled the ball by the defender to Jaymen who then sent a through ball to Jermaine who smashed it right in to the bottom corner. That was the game, we had won the championship! We won the trophy that now resides in the trophy (North Central Junior soccer winners).
