Saanich taxpayers will pay more as cost of running muncipality jumps 3.6 per cent

Expect to see your taxes jump this year as Saanich council is expected to approve the 2011 budget Tuesday night.

A home valued at $626,800 – the average in Saanich — can expect to pay an extra $133 this year.

Finance director Paul Murray says there’s not a lot of change to the final budget, compared to the draft presented to council in January.

“It’s the same information. There’s no change to the 3.6 per cent level that was put forward earlier this year,” he said.

Since then, councillors have had financial planning meetings to discuss departmental spending, police and fire budgets, as well as money for community grants, the Greater Victoria Public Library and organizations like the Swan Lake Christmas Hill Nature Sanctuary.
