With two highways and the highest flowing hub on Vancouver Island (the Douglas corridor), it’s no surprise Saanich has the Island’s leading intersection for motor vehicle incidents between 2011 and 2015.

The former McKenzie/Admirals intersection with the Trans Canada Highway led the Island during the five year span with 394 MVIs though those numbers are expected to reduce dramatically with the addition of the $85 million McKenzie interchange.
The higher frequency MVIs that Saanich Police see are the “fender benders,” when people aren’t paying attention, says Sgt. Jereme Leslie of the Saanich Police.
“Drivers aren’t aware that vehicles are stopping and end up crashing into the back of the intersection, or people [don’t understand] what the light situation is and go through yellow or red lights, causing t-bones.”
Victoria’s most were Douglas and Finlayson with 285 and Hillside and Shelbourne with 248, while Oak Bay’s most dangerous intersections was Fort and Foul Bay with 74.
