The man fatally shot in a drive-by shooting near Salmon Arm has been identified as Nicholas Cole Larsen, 24, of Sorrento.
On June 1, shortly after midnight, members of the Salmon Arm RCMP Detachment responded to reports of shots fired in the community of Blind Bay.
Police investigation revealed that Larsen was gunned down by someone in a passing car while he travelled in a vehicle on Blind Bay Road.
No arrests have been made in connection with the case and police are not commenting on whether they have identified suspects.
Information gathered by police suggests that the shots came from another vehicle traveling on the same road. Police believe Larsen was specifically targeted by his assailants.
RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Annie Linteau would not comment on whether drugs or debts may have been the reason for the targeted shooting, but did not that for the time being that is no information to suggest the killing was gang-related.
An autopsy was completed in Kamloops yesterday, however, none of that information will be released to the public.
Members of the South East District Major Crime Unit continue to investigate the situation.
An area of Blind Bay Road near Centennial Road and Marine Drive which had been blocked off for police forensic investigators has now been reopened to traffic.
RCMP are not commenting on why a residence in Blind Bay remains secured behind police tape, other than to indicate it is part of this investigation.
Larsen grew up in Sorrento, attending elementary school in that community before attending school at Salmon Arm Secondary. He was not employed at the time of his death.
Larsen’s parents and sibling are longtime residents of Sorrento.
Blind Bay is located approximately 20 kilometers west of Salmon Arm.
