Close to 6000 eager visitors entered the gates in only one and a half days to view the sculptors carving their masterpieces in the remaining hours last weekend.
The theme at the Quality Foods Canadian Open Sand Sculpting Competition & Exhibition in Parksville Community Park this year is: A Celebration of Music. On Sunday Parksville Beach Fest Society awarded a total of $43,000 to sculptors. And the winners were:
Solo Artists:
First place went to Helena Bangert from the Netherlands for Cosmic Dancer; Justin Gordon, from Groveland, Massachusetts, took second place for Nature’s Song; Third place went to Karen Fralich from Burlington, Ontario for Music Box Dancer; Fourth Place went to Delayne Corbett from Vancouver, B.C. for Flamenco and Peter Vogelar, from Winlaw, B.C., took fifth place for Sax in the City.
Doubles Results:
First place went to Melineige and Guy Beauregard (father and daughter team) from Quebec for Fly Me to the Moon; Second Place went to Arianne van Rosmalen and Marielle Heessels from the Netherlands for Breaking Through; Third place was secured by Marianne van den Broek and Chris Guinto from Key West, Florida for On a Finale Note.
